Shelsley Bits

Hi all

I saw Pete last week, who dropped into the conversation that the chassis jigs could be scrapped. Can’t have that I thought…..

I’ve just been over to Pete’s and am in the process of gathering all of the bits he has, and I have his permission to refabricate anything that may be needed now or in the future. Its likely that I may seek to build another car at some stage myself. I will soon be collecting the chassis & suspension jigs (along with assorted bits already made up). Today I have collected a whole bunch of bodywork including a lot of moulds. I think Pete had no idea he had so much stuff!

I know that some folk have been getting together to recreate some moulds, but I do appear to have a significant no. of the originals now, including some race car parts, as well as a few panels from which the remaining moulds may be obtained. I’ve got a whole load of paper work and will even get the chassis plates from him too.

I love my Shelsley, and I simply could not allow the project to disappear. Hopefully, the whole project will soon be rescued and remain a source of entertainment for us for years to come.

  1. If I had the space I’d would have had them, I’m glad you’ve managed to rescue them… I’ll be making my way over to your workshop soon to have a poke around 🙂

  2. Well done Chris, I did hear that Peter was looking to unload all the jigs etc.
Roger was interested but had no storage .
With George having new body work mounds it would be possible to create a new Shelsley.
That has to be very good news.

  3. Well there is a first for everything! ….and this is it :0) It is the first time I have added comments on the site but long over due I might add. I am thrilled that Chris has stepped up to the mark and obtained the jigs etc this is good news and like Chris I am over the moon with my car. I know George at Bracon Ash has a fantastic set of molds (made by some local skill of hand that are secound to none if you know what I mean ;0). ) These molds produce first class body parts and should anyone require parts I would suggest talking too George as well. I have been working on my car and have produced side scoops that are effective in drawing in cooling air to the engine bay (I have a mold for parts) I will post some pics. I am just in the throws of renewing my cooling system and removing all ancillary casings from the engine to run a electric cooling pump, side scoops will improve water cooling as well. I will try to put more on the site when I remember.

    1. Brilliant news and am delighted that the jigs etc were not scrapped. Well done Chris. Have been looking to add scoops for ages now some well done Roger. Can’t wait to chat more at Stoneleigh.

  4. I’ve not spoken to Pete for several years now so based on this post I guess I’m right to assume that Pete has had enough and moved on to new projects.

Well done to you Chris for rescuing the parts and keeping this great project alive 🙂

  5. I too have a shelsley but mine is a single seater center positioned .I’ve had mouldings made for mine I’m in the middle of putting it back together.I was told mine is the only single seater out there.

    1. Hi Neil, that’s great! Do you have any pictures that you could send over? – Which county are you in and do you plan on racing it? Chris.

      1. I’m at Welshpool powys. And yes chris I’m planning to hill climb it at my local hill climb which is loton park… just got to put it all to gether wiv my new body. Time is all I need.

        1. Loton is a great hill climb, but of course Shelsley walsh has to be the target for a shelsley!
What body work mouldings do you have for the single seater? I’m thinking of putting a doorless windowless version together with an eventual aim of hill-climbing it

I’m aware of another race version which is currently “laid up”. Is yours a full space-frame or monocoque chassis?

          Chris

  6. Hi Chris

Glad to hear you have rescued some jigs and moulds, I have already repaired upper wishbones at the front and rear by making jigs from the opposite side parts. The front was bent when I bought the car and the tube holding the bush and crush tube broke away from the outer end of the rear, upper wishbone. At some point I want to re-design the rear suspension setup to use longer dampers mounted off the carrier rather than the upper wishbone, either that or work out a pushrod system.

Do you have anything to make the rear screen bodywork from? Mine has a full soft top which has seen better days.

    1. Chris….I don’t have any moulds for the rear screen….i think that they were all destroyed. TBH its a weak point of my car as i can’t raise the boot very far as it chatches, and the rear window is something I’ve never been satisfied with. I have a plan to make a new prototype & mould…..if i get round to it of course!

  7. Hi Chris,

Do you have a number so I can call to discuss details about chassis and racing parts, or give me a call 07807005031 Martin.
