Steering Rack

Hello to the Shelsley team,
Alan here,
question:- anyone help in regards to changing steering ratio.
My current set-up is approx. 3.6 lock to lock.
Electric steering has made steering better but need to reduce lock to lock movement.

    1. I was toying with using a ford escort quick rack 2.9 ratio, but not sure if it would create bump steer if the rack was a different length.
It needs to have the cv joint at the same position as the Rover unit.
      Any thoughts
      Al

  1. Hi .. I’ve got a shelesley for sale . Hardly used , it’s Mot’d until mid August & has a 1.8 K series engine . Showroom condition. If anyone is interested call Paul on . 01509 231617 or 07814080069 . No time wasters please .

    1. Hi Paul. Always interested when there is a T2 for sale. Any pictures / more details available. Thanks. Michael.

  2. The ball joint needs to be in the same position in all three axis as it currently is so as not to introduce bump steer. If you can’t find a quicker rack off the shelf then you have two options
    1) Modify the current rack with a quicker one
    2) replace the entire unit with something like a quick rack off a single seater (very short in length) then add an extender bar to one side (passenger side most likely) with a linear bearing mounted on the chassis. This would allow you to position the pivot on both sides in the correct place
